Passing of Marie-Claude Beaud
The Board of Directors and staff of the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco were deeply saddened to learn of the sudden death of Marie-Claude Beaud (February 22, 1946 – December 29, 2024), the institution’s director between 2009 and 2021.
A “grande dame of museums”, Marie-Claude Beaud shook up the rules early on, inviting all artistic disciplines into the heart of the museum, and provoking unprecedented dialogues and encounters. She was also always keen to broaden and diversify her audience.
With this trademark, and the complicity of the artists and teams she built up around her, she made a lasting mark on the art venues she visited or created throughout her incredible career: first the Grenoble and Toulon museums, then the Fondation Cartier pour l’Art Contemporain in Jouy-en-Josas and Paris, the American Center (Paris), the Musée des Arts Décoratifs (Paris), the Mudam in Luxembourg and finally the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco.
To his family and friends, and to all those artists, creators, curators, art historians and collaborators who have had the good fortune to cross his path, we offer our most sincere condolences.
