Collector Artists
In 2019, by inviting Oriol Vilanova to lead an artist-in-residence program in schools, the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco launched an initiative that continues today, with the aim of helping middle school students in the Principality understand what collecting means to an artist.

Invited as part of a dual residency program for artists and collectors in schools and digital creation, Elisa Bollazzi collaborates with sixth-grade arts students at the François d’Assise Nicolas Barré and Charles III schools. During her residency, she raises awareness of contemporary creation and mediation based on works from the MicroCollection. Her digital creation residency focuses on the NMNM collections, in line with her interest in the infinitely small.
As part of her school-based residency focused on digital creation, Léa Collet led a multi-stage collaborative project centered on depicting the Principality’s landscape and its vegetation. After several sessions with 6th-grade students at Collège Charles III and the Institution François d’Assise–Nicolas Barré, the artist produced a video with some of the students who wished to continue the project. At the same time, in collaboration with the gardeners and landscape architects from the Direction de l’Aménagement urbain (Department of Urban Amenities), she wove a narrative blending history and fiction centered on the Jardin Saint-Martin, the original site of the Jardin Exotique.
Éléonore False works with two 6th grade classes from the Principality’s two secondary schools. She invites the pupils to collect images from the various printed media around them and to classify them in her own way, with a view to composing their own collages.
